ASTARS NURSERY

Astars Cassava intends to establish an up to 700ha Cassava Nursery at the Project Site to ensure adequate supply of “virus free” planting materials going forward. The proposed Astars Cassava Nursery will be developed with the assistance of the late Dr. Ian Robertson's Agribiotech team as well as the participation of the Department of Research and Specialist Services in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture Water in light of proven works they have already done in developing “virus free” planting materials. About 200ha would support Astars Cassava’s core farm and its out- growers. The remaining 500ha will support the Government of Zimbabwe’s Strategic Food Security Programme through which communal farmers in dry regions can benefit from the resultant 7,500ha programme of Cassava.
